FAQs

What populations and presenting concerns do you work with?

I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people presenting with a wide spectrum of mood, anxiety, identity, and relational concerns. I specialize in working with late adolescents and adults struggling with sense of self, identity concerns, social justice concerns, anxiety, sadness, trauma, and relationship challenges. In particular, I have extensive experience with concerns relating to the following identities/life stages: college students and early adulthood, queer folks, polyamorous folks, BIPOC individuals, women, highly sensitive people, and intercultural relationships.

What should I expect at a first session?

Before setting up a first session, I offer a free phone consultation to determine whether or not it will be a good fit and decide about setting up an intake appointment. The first session for individual therapy will last about an hour and will focus on getting to know each other and planning treatment goals. For therapy with more than one person, I will meet with the dyad/polycule/etc as a collective and then will determine whether if and when individual sessions may be of clinical benefit. Together you and I will go over the forms and clarify any issues. During the first session you may be asked questions about your symptoms, your relationships, your past experiences and your family history among other subjects. You will have a chance to ask any questions you'd like. The purpose is to start to figure out if it might be  a good fit. If you choose not to work together, I will offer referrals elsewhere.

What would not be a good fit?

Because of the limits of this private practice, people struggling with these specific issues may be better served elsewhere. Some concerns that may not be a good fit are severe eating disorders, high risk for suicide (active plan/intent/means), and concerns requiring more than weekly contact and need greater access to providers. I have limited availability to respond to crisis situations (i.e., if I am working with another client, overnight, on weekends, etc.). For this reason, it is very important that you are aware of other services available in the event of a crisis. If you experience a crisis or emergency, call 988, go to your local emergency room, or call the MA statewide Emergency State Program/Mobile Crisis Intervention (ESP/MCI) at 1-877-382-1609.

What health insurances do you take?

In partnership with Alma and Awake IntuMind, I am able to accept a select number of insurance-based clients. To learn more about insurance coverage, please visit our page on insurance-based services, or reach out to schedule a free fifteen minute consultation.

Some insurance companies (i.e. PPO plans) provide partial reimbursement for services rendered by out-of-network providers. Please check with your insurance provider to determine whether you have any out-of-network coverage for behavioral health and to request more specific information about your plan's reimbursement rate, deductible, and mental health coverage. I can provide you with documentation that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have coverage. Please note that I can not guarantee you will receive any reimbursement.

Some questions you could ask your insurance company:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health coverage?

  • If so, what percentage is covered?

  • Is teletherapy covered by my plan?

  • Do I have a deductible? What is it and how much of it have I met?

  • What is the co-pay for a session if I see an out-of-network provider?

  • How do I submit a request for reimbursement?

What are your fees?

For information regarding private pay, out-of-network, or sliding scale rates, please see our clinical services overview. Limited sliding scale and insurance spots are available.  Payment is due at the time of service, and will be collected only via credit card (no cash or check).

A cancellation fee of $40 is charged if a session is canceled without at least 24-hour notice. Sessions are typically weekly for up to 55 minutes. Longer sessions will be prorated. While sessions are usually weekly, they can be scheduled on a more or less frequent basis (e.g.,  twice a week, every other week) when deemed clinically appropriate. You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. You also have rights and protections against Surprise Medical Bills. Payments can be made in the form of any major credit card.
